HIV prevalence from Mother to Child infection has risen from 2.9 percent in 2017 to 10.8 percent in 2018 in the Sunyani Municipality, while 187 pregnant women tested HIV positive in 2018 as compared to 160 in 2017.
According to the Sunyani Municipal Director of Health Services, Dr. Mrs. Paulina Appiah, the sharp increases are attributable to low awareness creation on measures to check mother to child infection and new HIV infections.
She therefore stressed the need to expand the scope of awareness creation in the Municipality for the public especially women to know more about preventing HIV infection.
Dr. Mrs. Paulina Appiah spoke to Radio Ghana on the sidelines of the Sunyani Municipal Health Directorate’s Annual Performance Review Meeting in Sunyani.
