Teenage Pregnancy constitutes about 25% of ante-natal data at the health centers and CHPS compound in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

The situation has been described as a serious reproductive health challenge in the area. While the situation is blamed on defilement or rape, majority of the cases are attributed to the naivety and curiosity of adolescent girls to experiment with sex.

Public Health Officer at the Binduri District Health Directorate, Isaac Adabre, told correspondent Prosper Adankai in Bolgatanga that teenage girls who are given out in marriage also constitute a significant proportion of teenage pregnancies in the district.

Mr.Adabre urged parents to be interested in what their children do on social media.

He also called on policy makers to incorporate life skills training in the school curriculum to make young people assertive.
