A Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Chairman and Lead Surgeon at the GRAFT Foundation, Dr. Kwame Abrokwaa-Yankyera has debunked the claim that women who undergo tummy tuck are unable to give birth.

According to him, tummy tuck is done in the external part of the tummy and does not affect the reproductive system.

“Well fertility and tummy tuck are independent. They are, they are not linked. Yes, you can have tummy tuck. I had a client who did tummy tuck and became pregnant. So you see, the procedure we are talking about does not affect your reproductive organs either the ovary or your womb. It is external. It is external work we do,” he said.

Notwithstanding, the Surgeon stated that it is ideally important to give birth before one undergoes tummy tuck.

“Yes ideally, it is good for those who have finished their kids. Because the indication for someone who has not had a kid for tummy tuck is rare. Usually, they are indicated for liposuction,” he stated on GTV Breakfast  Show.

He however advised women to see a Dietician after tummy tuck to keep in shape.

“You can eat any food but the best thing is to see a Dietician so that he will prescribe the quantities you have to eat. It is the quantity of food we eat that will take you back. And also, you add exercise to it,” he advised.
