Upper West region records cases of meningitis

The Upper West Regional Director of Health, Dr Damien Punguyiri has confirmed that the region recorded 51 cases of Meningitis at the end of last month.

He said seven out of the number are on admission while the rest have been discharged.

Speaking to GBC News in Wa, Dr Punguyiri said no death has been recorded in the region as a result of meningitis this year.

He said the region has stepped up surveillance on the disease to prevent an outbreak.

Dr Punguyiri said though the situation is under control, people should not take chances.

He advised those who experience symptoms of meningitis such as stiffness of neck, fever and headache to report to any health facility immediately for attention. He said the Directorate has in stock drugs for the treatment of the disease.
