Three people have died from coronavirus in the past three days in the Western Region.

This is contained in the Covid-19 update by the regional directorate of the Ghana Health Service GHS released three days apart.

The latest death was recorded in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis. The death column on the last Covid-19 update dated Saturday, August 7 reported 41 cases.

However, according to the latest update dated Tuesday, August 10, the death column reports 44 cases, indicating three new deaths.

Mild positive cases have reduced 89 cases from 225 to 136 with active positive cases also decreasing by 89 cases from 231 to 142. However moderate positive cases increased by a case from five to six.

Per the update, there is no severe and critical positive case in the region. In an interview with the Effia Kwesimintsim Municipal Assembly Health Director, Mrs. Joyce Sutherland, she said the situation can only get better if members of the public adhere to the COVID 19 safety protocols especially the wearing of nose masks.

She said general protocol observation is very low with most people not wearing mask and the few who wear them, most often do not wear them appropriately. Hand washing and social distancing she said, is almost nil. Back in town, it was observed that only a few people were in nose masks.

A couple of institutions notably banks still have handwash stations with water, soap and paper napkins at entry points but most premises had a security man dispensing sanitizers and also checking the temperature of clients or customers before entry.

On the whole, it looks like education on the existence of a new Covid variant should be intensified to avoid the recording of more positive cases and even deaths.
