Residents of Woredaa Community in the Zanlerigu Electoral Area of the Nabdam District in the Upper East Region have received a major boost in healthcare delivery following the commissioning of a new maternity ward aimed at improving maternal and child health services.

The facility, funded by the Member of Parliament for Nabdam, Dr. Mark Kurt Nawaane, is expected to reduce the burden on pregnant women who previously travelled long distances to access maternity care.

Commissioning the facility, Dr. Nawaane said the maternity ward complements the CHPS compound he constructed in the community in 2018 and aligns with government’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare through the Free Primary Health Care Programme.

“This maternity ward will ensure that expectant mothers receive safe and timely delivery services closer to home. It is part of our commitment to improving healthcare and supporting government’s vision of accessible primary healthcare for all.”

Assembly Member for the Zanlerigu Electoral Area, Mr. Isaac Wulug, commended the MP for investing in the wellbeing of the people.

“The people of Woredaa are grateful. This facility will save lives and reduce the hardship pregnant women have endured over the years.”

The NDC Constituency Vice Chairman, who also serves as the Upper East Regional Deputy Director of NADMO in charge of Administration, Christopher Beokena, described the project as another demonstration of the MP’s dedication to development.

“Dr. Nawaane continues to deliver on his promises. His leadership is transforming communities and improving the lives of our people. We will protect you and your good works so that you can continue to deliver your vision for the people of Nabdam.”

The maternity ward is expected to serve Woredaa and neighbouring communities, bringing quality maternal healthcare closer to hundreds of families.
