The Minister of Inner City and Zongo Development, Dr. Mustapha Hamid, has issued a strong warning to Heads of Health Institutions who discriminate against Muslim women who wear Hijab in their facilities.

In a passionate appeal, the Minister said the constitution allows for freedom of worship and nobody should be prevented from manifesting the symbol of their religion.

Speaking at the Meet the Press series in Accra, Dr Hamid called for an end to the practice.

“I want the health authorities and administrators to tell me how else a Muslim woman manifest her ‘Islamness’ with the hijab? While the hijab is not a symbol of piety, it is a symbol of identity and identity is a manifestation,” he said.
