The Chiefs and people of the Nkoranza Traditional Area say if Nkoranza is not named as the capital of the newly created Bono East Region, they will not vote for the NPP in the 2020 General Elections.

The Adontenhene of the Nkoranza Traditional Area, Nana Okofo Agyepong, said this in a speech read on his behalf after a demonstration at Nkoranza.

The demonstration was organised in reaction to concerns that Nkoranza was sidelined in the process of creating the new regions.

The Nkoranza Traditional Area is one of the largest in Bono-Ahafo, covering four political administrative districts. Nkoranza is consequently one of the Cities hoping to be named capital of the Bono East Region.

However, Monday morning residents organised a demonstration to among others protest against what they see as deliberate sidelining of Nkoranza in the entire Region creation process. The Demonstration lasted a couple of hours.

The Protesters carried placards with inscriptions like “Nkoranza has been sidelined for too long”, and “Dan Botwe you are biased”. The Chiefs addressed a News Conference which followed the demonstration.

The Chief of Buaben, Nana Owusu Damoah Ameyaw, read a statement signed by the Adontenhene of Nkoranza, Nana Okofo Agyepong.

He said the People of Nkoranza perceive a well-orchestrated plan to sideline Nkoranza in the Region creation process and naming of a regional capital.

They maintain that Nkoranza was not invited to about four major meetings in the Region creation process, while the Minister for Regional Reorganisation also failed to visit Nkoranza during visits to the area. He said the biggest evidence of a conspiracy against Nkoranza is denial of the Sector Minister that he never received a petition from the area asking that it be considered for hosting the regional capital.

They also had a warning for the ruling NPP Government.
