Ghanaian highlife and Afrobeat singer, Eugene Kwame Marfo who goes by the stage name, Kuami Eugene has revealed he wrote his recent song, ‘Lamine Yamal’ with no intention to get the attention of Spanish Footballer, Lamine Yamal.
According to Eugene, he felt the song is too good that, it would make name for itself without the player necessarily promoting it.
When asked if the football player had reached out to him, Eugene answered in the negative stating that he only saw a video where someone tried to play the music to the player’s hearing but he was driving at the time.
Speaking on a show on Kwadwo Sheldon Studios on Thursday, December 25, 2025, Kuami Eugene clarified that he did not write the song in question based on the fact that he wanted to move from being a Real Madrid fan to being a Barcelona fan as most people assumed when he released the song. According to him, he still remains a Real Madrid fan even citing his favorite player to be Vinicius Jnr though the song is about a Barcelona player.
Kuami Eugene also praised Lamine Yamal for being such a good football player and likened himself to him. He stated that he sees himself in Lamine Yamal in a way because they have certain similarities.
“I see myself in Lamine Yamal in a way in the sense that, he does not let haters get to him. People troll him, even his teammates but he just casually brushes it off and same applies to me because people talk about me a lot but I don’t let it get to me”, he said.
He also went on to mention how ironic it was that people could easily turn against one another in a moment. “It’s funny how people can enjoy your success with you and then turn against you at some point but that’s just how life works, you can’t stay on top forever”.
According to him, every successful person gets backlash and so with time, if one suddenly does not get talked about or hated on, then that person might probably be fading from the limelight.
