President John Dramani Mahama and his wife, Mrs. Lordina Mahama, on Wednesday visited the Rawlings family residence to express their condolences following the passing of Ghana’s former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.

President Mahama and his wife expressed their heartfelt sympathies to the family of the late Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, acknowledging her remarkable contributions to Ghana’s political and social development.

President John Dramani Mahama, in a tribute written in the book of condolence opened in honour of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings, stated, “Ghana is proud of your achievements during your 19 solid years as First Lady and ‘Mother of the Nation.’

During the visit, they offered words of comfort and solidarity to the bereaved family, reflecting on the late former First Lady’s legacy of service, advocacy, and commitment to women’s empowerment.

President Mahama noted that her extended influence allowed her to make deep, lasting impacts across the nation.

“Even up to today, when you go around the country on the campaign trail, you see evidence of her work,” President Mahama said, highlighting projects in oil palm extraction and dairy production that remain operational and continue to benefit women and their families across Ghana.

“There’s a lot that can be said,” he added, recognizing Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings not only as an influential first lady but as a relentless advocate for female economic independence.

President Mahama expressed confidence that when full tributes are written, a comprehensive story of her role and remarkable achievements would emerge, cementing her place in Ghana’s history as a transformative figure in championing women’s rights and empowerment.

Ghana’s Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings died on 23rd October, 2025 at the age of 76. She was the widow of Ghana’s longest-serving leader, Jerry John Rawlings, who died five years ago.
