The Chief of Fielmuo, Naa Dr. Francis Nwin-Iremeh Danikuu, says the materialistic and individualistic tendencies of the current generation are detrimental to the vulnerable in society.

He has therefore challenged the younger generation to revisit the very high values of the generations before them by dedicating themselves to the total wellbeing of society.

Naa Danikuu made the observation in an address read for him by Michael Danikuu at the 21st Kukur Bagr festival of the chiefs and people of Fielmuo in the Sissala West District.

GBC’s Emmanuel Mensah-Abludo reports that Naa Danikuu admonished Ghanaians to stop the disgraceful tendency of adopting foreign cultures, saying our culture is equally important as that of the outside world.

The Chief underscored the importance of upholding our good cultural heritage that creates the needed social safety nets and peaceful co-existence.

He said: “It is important to preserve our cultural heritage because it keeps our integrity as people. In the past, orphans were not easily identified because there were people who volunteered to become their parents and cared for them just as their parents would have done”.

“No one will build Ghana for us. We must think of Ghana at all times and practice good cultural heritage which encourages good relationships among us, passed on to us and especially those values that encourage us to peacefully co-exist with different ethnic groups within the political districts that we find ourselves,” Naa Danikuu emphasised.

The Chairman of the Fielmuo Area Development Association (FADA), Naa Maayir indicated that the festival helps to foster peace unity among the people whilst galvanising them for the development of Fielmuo and its environs. He appealed for a Basic Certificate Examination (BECE) centre to be created at Fielmuo to spare students and teachers the hassle of travelling 30 kilometres to the District Capital, Gwollu every year to for the exams.

The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih told the gathering that the government is working around the clock to put in shape roads in the area and urged them to take stock of their needs whilst complementing governments effort.

“I wish to urge you whilst enjoying yourselves, the sons and daughters at this year’s celebrations to take stock of the development needs and aspirations of your people and map out strategies in your own small ways that you think can address the development short-comings as a supplement to government efforts to improve the living conditions of own people.”

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih also joined the chiefs and people of Lambussie Traditional Area for their Mifele Gbero Festival which was anchored on ‘The Role of Women in Controlling Environmental Degradation’.

Dr. Bin Salih stated that the fight against environmental degradation will therefore not be won if women are relegated to the background.

He said, “I therefore wish to add my voice to urge the good people of Lambussie particularly, women and the youth to embrace sound environmental practices in our collective efforts at sustaining the environment for the good of our generation and generations after us.”

The Paramount Chief of Lambussie, Kuoro Issaka Zengeh Kazie Tenjie repeated an appeal he made to President Akufo-Addo in August 2019 and observed, “Regional Minister, you will recall that when the President called on us on the August 18, 2019, we solicited that the Lambussie Community Day Senior High School be made a boarding school. This is because, the school is more than three kilometers from the Lambussie Township, yet there are no dormitories or bungalows for students and teachers.”
