Invest in programs that are relevant to national development – Deputy Education Minister

The Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has expressed the need for Private sector to invest in programs that are relevant  and crucial to the development  of needs as a country and that will attract young people.

This according to him, calls for innovative strategic partnership with the financial sector and explore investment  opportunities  in private higher education.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, made this remark in an address read for him at the 25th Congregation and 40th Anniversary  Celebration of Valley View University, Kumasi Campus.

The event which was under the theme: Celebrating 40 Years of Value-Based Higher Education in Ghana saw a total of 237 graduands  with various degrees.

The deputy minister noted that over the years, the private sector has played a significant  role in tertiary  education, and valley view university  stands tall as a trailblazer  that many have followed.

He said government is focused on its ensuring that quality education becomes accessible to all our children, irrespective  of their social or financial  circumstances.

It is this core belief that drives government’s  free SHS policy.

He said private university sector has huge role to play in meeting the tertiary  needs of an increased crops of SHS graduates and urged Private sector to invest in programs that are relevant  and crucial to the development  of needs as a country and that will attract young people.

This, Dr. Adutwum calls for innovative strategic partnership with the financial sector and explore investment  opportunities  in private higher education.

The Chief Executive  Officer of Donaldy and Associates Chartered Accountants, Robert Donaldy who was the guest speaker suggested that private Universities  established  by recognised Missions whose view is to develop  skills manpower, enrich Ghanaian Society and invest the Institutions  Surpluses in Value-Based education should be considered by government  in subsidising their costs since the country is the ultimate beneficiary of their products.

The Vice Chancellor  of the University, Prof. Daniel Kwame Bediako disclosed that Ghanaian Adventist group in the USA launched the Valley View University Foundation whose aimed  is to endow professorships  and support the education of quality students.

The Kumasi Rector, of the University B. Amponsah commended alumni of the university for their continues support to their Alma mater.
