Jasikan College of Education holds 12th Congregation

The Minister of State in charge of Tertiary Education, Professor Kwesi Yankah, says the action and inaction of government over the years, has devalued education, and discouraged many school going children from developing keen interest in the sector.

He has therefore stressed the need for government to ensure that no child is left behind in the quest for higher knowledge by reason of poverty.

Prof. Kwesi Yankah who was speaking at the 12th Congregation of the Jasikan College of Education in the Oti Region as the special guest of honour called for collaborative effort among all stakeholders of the college to promote higher academic achievement among students.

He charged the graduands to continue to upgrade themsevels while on the field, adding that the GES is putting in place, policies to sanction non-perfoming teachers in the coming years.

The Deputy Regional Minister for Oti Region, Maxwell Blagozi commended the college for its passion for accademic and moral upliftement over the years.

He noted that the intellectual and moral development of the next generation especially at the three basic levels depend largely on teachers.

Teachers cannot afford to behave anyhow but eshew all negative practices that are likely to undermine their professional and character training.

He therefore stressed the need for teachers to be committed and hardworking to impact positively on their students.

The Principal of the College, Dr Daniel Hammond urged the graduands to be worthy ambassadors of the college and always accept posting to the rural areas where their services are most needed.

He mentioned poor road network on Campus, lack of staff bungalows and inadequate classrooms as some of the challenges confronting the college.

He appealed to government and other stakeholders to go to their aid.

The 12th congregation saw 365 students who have successfully completed the 3 year Diploma programmes general studies and early childhood being conferred honours .
