In a clear endorsement of continuity and steady leadership, the incumbent General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua, has decisively defended his seat, securing a resounding victory at the party’s intense national executive contest.
The high-stakes national delegates conference, which transformed the historic Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi into a sea of red, white, and blue, stretched from Saturday, October 3, into the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026.
When the dust settled and ballots were counted, Kodua stamped his authority on the race by pulling an impressive 4,486 votes, fending off a competitive field of contenders to maintain his grip on one of the most powerful and strategic administrative positions in Ghanaian politics.
How the Race Shook Out

The contest for the General Secretary slot was billed as one of the marquee battles of the weekend, drawing immense interest from political analysts and party grassroots alike. Kodua outperformed three other notable aspirants who fought hard for the mandate.
The official results for the General Secretary portfolio stood as follows:
- 1° Sylvester Tetteh — 1,340 votes
- 2° Eugene Boakye Antwi —162 votes
- 3° Justin Frimpong Kodua (Incumbent) — 4,486 votes (Winner)
- 4° Dr. Charles Dwamena — 126 votes
A Storied Political Track Record
Popularly known within the rank and file as “JFK,” Justin Frimpong Kodua’s political trajectory reflects deep-seated administrative experience. Before rising to the national office, Kodua served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), where he managed key national youth-focused interventions.
He first burst into the upper echelons of the NPP’s national executive structure in July 2022 during the party’s National Delegates Conference at the Accra Sports Stadium, where he defeated then-incumbent John Boadu.
Looking Ahead: The Task of Rebuilding
Kodua’s emphatic victory in Kumasi is widely interpreted by political watchers as a vote of confidence in his administrative capacity, resilience, and grassroots appeal. Having steered the party through rigorous political cycles, his retention is seen as a vital anchor for the NPP as it reorganizes, unifies, and maps out its strategic roadmap toward future electoral contests.
As the euphoria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium gradually gives way to the reality of internal governance, all eyes will remain on the re-elected General Secretary and the newly constituted executive team to spearhead the party’s next chapter.
