A delegation from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), led by its Commandant, Air Vice Marshall David Akrong, paid a courtesy call on the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to strengthen collaboration on gender and peacebuilding initiatives.

The meeting sought to deepen the existing partnership between the Ministry and the Centre, particularly in advancing the Women, Peace and Security agenda.

Discussions focused on harmonising the National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security and improving coordination between national policies and grassroots implementation.

Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey emphasised the importance of partnerships in promoting gender equality and sustainable peace.

She noted that lasting peace cannot be achieved without the active participation of women in decision-making processes at both national and community levels.

Air Vice Marshal David Akrong reaffirmed the Centre’s commitment to supporting gender-focused initiatives, including programmes on Women, Peace and Security, Affirmative Action and gender policy development.

He also briefed the Minister on specialised training programmes organised by the Centre for women and female parliamentarians, as well as an upcoming Gender Advisory Course aimed at equipping leaders with the skills to integrate gender perspectives into peace and security governance.

The meeting also explored ways of strengthening data collection and knowledge sharing to bridge the gap between national policy and grassroots actors such as queen mothers and community leaders involved in peacebuilding efforts.

Both institutions further discussed plans to formalise their partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding to guide future joint initiatives.
