Reports from Ketu South indicate that some Assemblymen in the Ketu South Municipality on Tuesday 30th June, 2020 threw caution to the winds and engaged in name callings coupled with some heavy slaps and insults without recourse to the Standing Orders of the Assembly.
The Assemblyman for Viepe Electoral Area, Richard Nyavi who received a heavy slap from a colleague, Assemblyman for Akame Electoral Area, Winfrey Dakunya confirmed this to our correspondent via interview.
The incident occurred at first sitting of the 8th General Assembly Meeting.
The report said the disturbances and the boycott of proceedings by some of the members started when a member questioned the presence of armed military men in the Constituency which was not on the agenda when the Justice and Security report was presented by the MCE, Edem Elliot Agbenorwu for discussions and approval.
Narrating his side of the story, Richard Nyavi said members were shouting in the house and asked Winfred Dakunya whose voice was too much to sit down and keep mute but before he could say jack Hon. Dakunya slapped him.
According to him, he reported the issue to the Denu Police Station and was given a medical form for hospital.
Police were not available for confirmation or otherwise.
Hon Winfrey Dakunya, the Assemblyman for Akame Electoral Area who allegedly slapped his colleagues has denied the allegation in an interview saying, “I did not and cannot slap a colleague no matter what the situation is”.
He explained that, there was an on-going discussion on the floor of the Assembly and he tried to raise a point of order because there was a deviation from the main topic.
“My hand didn’t touch him neither did his touched me. I just woke up this morning to hear in the news that I have slapped a colleague”, he narrated.
