Know our emergency numbers 191, 18555-Police entreats the public

The Director-General at the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, ACP, David Eklu has charged the public to have the Police Emergency numbers: 191 and 18555 at their fingertips to call for help in case of any emergency.

He said their emergency centers in Accra, Kumasi, and Tamale have been expanded and called on Ghanaians to make use of the centers before and during bad situations.

ACP David Eklu noted that, “the mandate of the Police is to protect, to prevent crime and to maintain law and order. As citizens of Ghana, each one of every person is connected, be it private, business person, or corporate person”.

ACP Eklu made this known at a Dinner Dance hosted by Melcom Group of Companies for a cross section of Senior Citizens in Accra to mark the Christmas season and usher in the New Year 2019.

According to him, the word police evokes memories; pleasant or unpleasant with different people depending on where one finds himself/herself. However, the mandate still remains the same.

ACP Eklu expressed appreciation to Melcom adding that Ghana Police is connected to Melcom through the Director of Communication for Melcom Group of Companies, Godwin Avenorgbo who according, to him is part of the transformation of Ghana police communication department, willing to share his expertise to make the department become a centre of excellence.

For his part, a former DVLA boss, Justice Amegashie asked motorist and pedestrians to be responsible and follow driving rules, in order to avert avoidable accidents.

He cautioned motorists against the use of mobile phones whilst driving.

Mr. Amegashie re-em-phased on the importance of seat belts and crush helmet for motor cyclists, “be responsible for your safety and the safety of other road users.”


Chairman of the Melcom Group of Companies Bhagwan Khubchandani, expressed his gratitude to Ghanaians for the love they have shown his family since his Father, Ramchand Khubchandani arrived in Ghana in 1929 to start a business relationship that led to the establishment of Glamour Stores in 1946 out of which came Melcom Where Ghana Shops established by his son Mr. Bhagwan Khubcandani in 1989.

Mr. Bhagwan Khubchandani said the event was part of the Groups’ social responsibility programme meant to put smiles on the faces of the aged.

The Melcom Groups Consulting Director of Communications Godwin Avenorgbo proposed that the Khubchandani Name be officially recognised and celebrated for the role they played in setting up a sustainable business in retail where many others have failed.

He commended the Group Chairman and The Directors for taking bold steps to invest in the extension of services by opening more branches in the regions thereby creating job opportunities for young Ghanaian Graduates and other school leavers.

The dinner dance which brought together over one hundred (100) people made up of Senior Citizens from The Police, Armed Forces, Academia, Journalists. Lawyers, Doctors, Administrators, Musicians, Librarians and many others, who were treated to good music to energize themselves for the year 2019.

The occasion was graced by Director General of Public Affairs Ghana Police Service ACP David Eklu, Ambassador Kabral Blay Amihere, Chairman of the Board of GRIDCO, Dr. Koryoe Anim-Wright, Immediate Past President of AUCC, Lawyer Justice Amegashie former CEO of DVLA, Affail Monney GJA President and a Member of the Media Commission and several other dignitaries.

The Dancing Police, Ex Supt Felix Toya who after being withdrawn from traffic duties went to do a degree in Police Administration/Criminology, entertained the guests with some of his skills.
