Lawyers of the nine suspected coup plotters, charged with treason felony have asked the Kaneshie District Court to order the state prosecutors  to speed up the  investigations.

Lawyer for six of the accused persons Kojoga Adawudu told the court that, it has been over a month since the suspects were put before the court for remand and consistently, there seem to be no progress.

This is because prosecution kept  telling the court that investigations are ongoing while suspects languish in remand cells.

The lawyers whose clients have been put in military custody told the court that the confidentiality between them and their clients have been breached.

They said whenever they go there to have discussions with their clients, some Military Intelligence Personnel are made to sit in the meeting and record their conversation.

He said  the situation frustrates and hinders their work.

Prosecution led by Sylvester Asare said he had no idea of what the lawyers were talking about.

But he promised to  liaise with the Legal Department of the Ghana Armed Forces to see how best they can address their concerns.

The court Presided over by Eleanor Botwe called on the state to speed up investigations so that by the end of the year the committal process would have come to a close.

She also asked the lawyers, prosecutors  and the Ghana Armed Forces to collaborate to ensure a smooth trial.

The case has been adjourned to November 12, 2019.
