Mahama decries attempt by Education Minister to close down non-performing schools

Former President John Dramani Mahama.

Former President and National Democratic Congress, NDC, flagbearer aspirant, John Dramani Mahama, has asked the Minister of Education, Dr. Osei Adutwum, to resign if his only solution to non-performing schools is closure.

He said the government and for that matter Ministry of Education has the duty to help the schools and the students to achieve better results by providing them with the required teachers and infrastructure for better education and not the threat of closing them down.

Addressing branch and constituency executives of the NDC at Adudwama in the Ahafo Ano South East of Ashanti region, former President Mahama asked the Minister of Education not to close down non-performing schools.

Former President John Dramani Mahama justified his government’s decision to build the community day schools at outskirts of towns.

This he said will allow for future expansion and also serve as a pivot for expansion of the communities in which the schools have been built.

The former President cited the Adudwama Community Day Senior School as an example.
