The Greater Accra Regional Disinfection Exercise at Mallam Atta Market started late Monday, March 23, because the chemicals meant for the exercise delayed.

GBC’s Felix Cofie reports that though all the spraying gangs and other accoutrement arrived at the market as early as 5 a.m., the chemicals were delivered after 9 a.m. The MCE for Ayawaso Central, Mohammed Quaye expressed his frustration at the delay.

Meanwhile, the fumigation exercise being carried out in some markets under the Accra Metropolitan Assembly seems to have affected everything in the capital, Accra.

All the once busy roads have been deserted, with free flow of traffic.

Though today is not a statutory public holiday, yet a walk through town reveals empty streets and less vehicular movement.

For some commercial drivers, just a handful of passengers in their vehicles was enough to move, others could also simply not be bothered and kept calling for more passengers.
