Lecturer at the University of Professional Studies, Dr. Palgrave Boakye Danquah believes the Minority in Parliament missed an opportunity to boost trust in the Judiciary by walking out during the vetting of Chief Justice nominee Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

Speaking on GTV’s breakfast show on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Dr. Danquah stated that with the opportunity the minority had, they could have allowed the process go through as the nominee was nominated by President Mahama.

According to him, “the Minority and Majority have always been an In and Out, we’ve never experienced a situation where the Executive is different from the Parliament in terms of Majority”.

The Minority Caucus staged a walkout on Monday, November 10, 2025 citing concerns over the legitimacy of the nomination process and pending court cases related to the removal of former Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo.

The walkout sparked heated exchanges between the Majority and Minority leaders, with the Minority arguing that proceeding with the vetting would undermine judicial independence and prejudice ongoing legal proceedings.

In a 26-page statement, the Minority Caucus, led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, explained that their decision was based on principle and concerns about due process.

Despite the walkout, the Appointments Committee completed the vetting process, and the House is now awaiting the committee’s recommendations for final approval.
