More than two million voters were registered in phase one of the ongoing voter registration. Those who registered using the Ghana Card constitute 59.3 per cent, while 30.7 percent used Guarantors.

This was made known by the Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations at the EC, Samuel Tettey, at the Maiden Edition of “Let The Citizen Know” in Accra.

Chairperson of the EC, Jean Mensah, added that the Commission has exceeded its target for Phase one of the voter registration.

The maiden edition of “Let The Citizen Know” was used to update the public on the progress of the registration exercise since its commencement last month.

Flanked by the Deputy Chair in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey and Deputy Chair in charge of Administration Dr. Bossman Asare, Chairperson of the EC Jean Mensah explained that “Let The Citizen Know” will continue till a successful general election is conducted in December.

She said the forum which will be held weekly on Wednesdays and Fridays will help clear the perception of secrecy surrounding the operations of the EC and bring it closer to the public.

Provisional figures from the EC indicate that close of 60 percent of those who registered in phase one of the exercise used their Ghana Card as a means of identification while less than one percent used their passports.

Deputy Chair of the EC in charge of  Operations Samuel Tettey gave the breakdown of figures for Phase one of the registration.
