Three persons lost their lives Friday, April 10, at New Takoradi, a fishing community in Takoradi in the Western Region, when fire engulfed their residence.

Eye witness account has it that the fire started around 9 a.m. when premix fuel which has been kept in the courtyard of the compound house, caught fire, trapping a mother of two and her children.

According to the account, the deceased, Mena Mensah, 27 years and her two children, Paa Kwesi 7 and Nana Yaa 3, were in the bathroom when another person started a fire for cooking purposes unaware of the storage of the premix fuel in the house, which was to be used for fishing expedition.

This led to an explosion. An alarm was quickly raised for help which attracted people in the household and others nearby to help bring the fire under control.

Frantic efforts were made to save the situation before the arrival of the fire service but it was too late. The bodies of the deceased have since been deposited at the Effia Nkwanta Hospital morgue.
