MP calls for gender balance in District Assembly elections

Gomoa Central MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, has urged women to avail themselves in the upcoming District level elections to ensure equal representation at the local governance level.

Mrs. Quansah who is also Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources advocated that women be well represented at the Assembly level to contribute effectively to decision making.

She was addressing the First Ordinary Meeting of the Gomoa Central District Assembly at Afransi, and was unhappy that all 15 elected members in the Assembly were men with only two female appointees.

She assured women who were eager to contest the elections of her support.  The MP said women are equally capable and have the ability to deliver to promote the socio-economic advancement of the country.

She called on prospective candidates, not to make campaign promises they cannot not fulfil.

The Electoral officer for the area, Moses Tia, briefed the Assembly Members on the electoral processes and revealed that 11 approved new electoral areas are to be contested for, in the 2019 District Assemblies elections.
