Bayern Munich midfielder Jamal Musiala has disclosed that he was diagnosed with a neurological dysfunction following two collapses in pre-season friendlies. In an Instagram post, the 23-year-old Germany international said he is experiencing “brief, temporary – but treatable – absence seizures” caused by the condition.
What happened in the friendlies
Musiala first collapsed during a friendly against Heidenheim, then suffered a similar incident in the closing stages of Bayern’s 3-1 win over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena. In the Leipzig match, he fell to the pitch without contact shortly after scoring, received on-field treatment, and was later able to walk off under his own power, though he appeared dazed.
Musiala’s message to fans
Addressing concerns, Musiala wrote: “I understand that many of you are worried. I would like to put those concerns to rest today and explain the situation.” He added: “I know these can seem scary at first glance – but for me, they’re currently part of my everyday life. I’m receiving the best medical care for this and am very optimistic.”
Club response and next steps
Bayern’s medical team attended to him immediately after both incidents, and sporting director Max Eberl said the most important thing was that Musiala was fine. The club has been monitoring his condition, with initial reports suggesting heat and circulatory issues contributed, before the neurological diagnosis was confirmed. Musiala is now undergoing treatment and is expected to continue training under medical supervision as he manages the condition.
