The My Help Your Help Foundation has carried out a major Easter outreach to inmates at the Nsawam Female Prison in Nsawam, bringing hope, relief items, and renewed attention to the needs of incarcerated women.

The outreach, held under the theme “Behind Bars, But Not Bound,” formed part of the foundation’s Easter activities aimed at supporting vulnerable groups through compassion, generosity, and spiritual encouragement.

Members of the foundation engaged inmates through words of encouragement, prayer, and reflections centred on redemption, faith, and new beginnings, core messages of the Easter season.

As part of the initiative, the foundation donated a wide range of items including a laptop, a 3-in-1 printer, eight boxes of A4 sheets, assorted medical drugs, 22 boxes of sanitary pads, boxes of brand new panties and brassières, 20 cartons each of bottled water and drinks, 50 sachets of water, as well as assorted food items, toiletries, confectioneries, provisions, and groceries. The total value of the donation was estimated at 85,000 Ghana cedis.

President and Founder of the Foundation, Nicolas Cofie, said the outreach was inspired by biblical teachings, particularly Hebrews 13:3 and Matthew 25:36, which call on society to remember and support those in prison.

He noted that the foundation’s first prison outreach was held in 2021 at the Osu Prison, and emphasised that their continued engagement reflects a commitment to restoring dignity and hope among inmates.

Mr. Cofie explained that the foundation is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable and underserved groups in society, including prison inmates, women, and disadvantaged communities.

He said the foundation focuses on providing relief items, promoting dignity, and encouraging rehabilitation through consistent outreach programmes, partnerships, and community support initiatives.

He added that over the years, the foundation has grown through the support of sponsors, partners, and volunteers who contribute both financially and through service, enabling the organisation to expand its reach and impact.

Mr. Cofie stressed that crime does not discriminate, noting that anyone could find themselves in prison, and therefore supporting inmates is both a moral and social responsibility. He explained that the donation involved extensive planning, financial sacrifice, and coordination with partners and donors.

During the visit, the team toured sections of the facility, including inmate accommodation areas, farms, poultry units under the government’s Nkokor Nkitikiti project, and a catfish farm, to better understand the living conditions and operational needs of the prison.

Deputy Director of Prisons, Victoria Adzewodah, commended the foundation for its gesture, describing it as a reflection of the sacrificial love demonstrated by Jesus Christ during Easter. She also called on the public to support ongoing initiatives by the Ghana Prisons Service.

The outreach by My help your help Foundation, forms part of the foundation’s broader mission to promote compassion, dignity, and inclusion, while advocating sustained support for vulnerable populations. They stressed that societal reintegration begins with care and acceptance, adding that inmates, though behind bars, must not be forgotten but supported to transform their lives.

The outreach ultimately reaffirmed the foundation’s belief that while inmates may be physically confined, they remain bound to hope, dignity, and the possibility of a new beginning.
