NDC calls for ‘NO’ vote in December referendum

The National Democratic Congress, (NDC) has joined the vote No campaign in the December 17 referendum.

The party says a NO vote will preserve the cohension of towns and communities unlike the National level which has been polarised by partisan politics.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo at a media briefing in Accra said the party support the election of MMDCEs has not changed, the NDC is rather worried about the way the government is going about it.

Mr. Ofosu Ampofo first used the news conference to correct the misinformation about the December 17 referendum.

Mr. Ampofo said it is the considered view of the NDC that people that people should be allowed to contest elections at the District Assembly level on their own merit instead of making it partisan.

The NDC National Chairman outlined seven pitfalls that may affect the governance and development of the country.

He therefore called on the government to withdraw the bill on the referendum to build a national concensus on it.

The NDC reiterated that the election of MMDCES does not require a referendum.
