NDC flagbearership race: Prof Alabi to pick nomination form despite filing fees controversy

National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer aspirant Prof Joshua Alabi will pick his nomination form Tuesday despite some controversy over the filing fees. The party is taking GF¢420,000 for picking and filling of nomination to contest the flagbearership slot.

However, eight (8) out of the eleven (11) persons who have showed interest to contest have raised issue with the amount being charged. They have written a petition to the NDC’s National Excutive Committee (NEC), to have the fees reviewed downward.

Prof Alabi who had showed his disagreement with the amount being charged refused to sign the petition and would pick his form Tuesday with an initial amount off GH¢20,000 as payment for the forms.

Although some aspirants feel betrayed, a leader of Prof Alabi’s campaign team, Lawyer Victor Kojoga Adawudu had explained that, Prof Alabi did not sign the petition due to a certain clause which says the aspirants will boycott the elections of the fees are not reduced. He said this in an interview on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, “Behind The News”.

Meanwhile, presidential primaries, forms have been picked up and paid for on behalf of former President John Mahama.

The forms were picked up by a delegation from the Asawase Constituency, which earlier pledged to pay for the GHc 20,000 nomination form after the former President visited the area.
