A nine member governing board of the newly created State Interest and Governance Authority, SIGA, has been sworn into office with a call on them to build a new culture of accountable governance in state-owned enterprises and other institutions of interest to the state.

At a brief Ceremony at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo called for change in the management of state-owned enterprises to enable them to work effectively in the interest of Ghanaians.

The State Interest and Governance Authority, SIGA, was established by an Act of parliament to among other things put state owned enterprises and joint venture corporations on the path of profit.

President Akufo-Addo last month inaugurated the new Authority which replaces the State Enterprises Commission and the Divestiture Implementation Commission.

President Akufo-Addo acknowledged the important role State enterprises play in the overall business and economic architecture and urged the new entity to play a productive role in the development of the economy.

He told the board to put the past challenges encountered by the State Enterprises Commission and the Divestiture Implementation Commission aside and work to make SIGA have a positive impact on the growth of the national economy.

On behalf of his colleagues, a member of the Board, Felix Intrakwah, promised to make the new entity viable.

The Governing Board has Terry Darko, as its Chairman, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, the Director General of the State Interest and Governance Authority (SIGA), Kow Essuman, representative of the Office of the President; David Collison, nominated by the Ministry of Finance; Franklin Owusu Asafo Adjei, representing the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana, as members.
