Newmont Ghana has delivered a major lifeline to Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, donating essential medical equipment worth over GH¢2.1 million to enhance care for critically ill patients.

The generous contribution, handed over by Country Manager Danquah Addo-Yobo, targets the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Pediatric Oncology Unit.

This boost arrives as Ghana’s leading referral hospital grapples with surging demand for advanced treatments in these high-pressure areas.

The donated items include state-of-the-art ventilators, invasive and non-invasive patient monitors, blood gas analyzer machines complete with test cartridges, and specialized monitors for young cancer patients.

Addo-Yobo emphasized that Newmont’s commitment transcends the financial value, rooted in a deep dedication to improving healthcare outcomes.

Responding directly to the hospital’s request, the donation aims to elevate treatment quality and recovery rates for vulnerable patients.

Newmont Ghana has long championed corporate social responsibility, extending beyond mining into health, education, and community development.

Notable past efforts include establishing the Ntotroso College of Nursing in 2014 via the Newmont Ahafo Development Foundation.

The company also partners on initiatives like Project C.U.R.E., which delivers equipment and training to hospitals across Ghana, alongside building health facilities and upskilling medical professionals.

Dr. Yakubu Seidu Adam, Chief Executive of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, hailed the donation as “timely and critical.”

He noted it will dramatically strengthen the hospital’s ability to handle complex cases, especially in the ICU and pediatric oncology where advanced support is in constant demand.

This infusion promises smoother operations and better patient survival stories. The gesture underscores Newmont’s ongoing role as a key player in Ghana’s social infrastructure, reinforcing public-private partnerships in healthcare amid rising medical challenges.
