The Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Mr. Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo says the commission has an open mind and will not allow intimidations from any media institution.

He made this remark when he met with the Board members, Management and Union representatives of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to formally introduce himself to them as the new Chairman of the NMC.

Mr. Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafo admonished the management to regulate religious broadcast on GBC’s stations to conform to the standards of the corporation as a state media broadcaster. He urged members of the Board and Management to live up to their principles and also be part of history, and not an appendage of history by not following the rules of any politician.

Board Chairman of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation

For his part, the Board Chairman of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Addo -Obeng bemoaned the political influence within members of the institution. He noted that until management and staff to stop the politics, GBC will be a non-existing institution in the near future. He pledged more engagement with the NMC in his quest to strengthen the corporation.

The Acting Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, Ing. Augustus Yamson, said the political game will stop if the corporation has an independent funding devoid of political control.

He stated that most of the judgment debts incurred by the corporation have been as a result of failure to appropriately educate clients on GBC’s mandate as a state broadcaster. He added that State programmes always take priority over any other programme including adverts. He promised to effect some changes in the corporation in the coming years.
