Wiawso hospital records zero maternal death

The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Hospital has since the beginning 2019, not recorded any maternal mortality.

This is as a result of an improved facility and also interventions put in place by management and staff of the Hospital.

The peer review meeting which was used to assess the performance of the hospital this year, brought together participants comprising medical doctors, laboratory technicians, pharmacists, nurses, physician assistants and hospital administrators from Juaboso and Bia West districts, as well as Sefwi Wiawso and Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipalities in the Western North Region.

Among the areas reviewed were clinical practices, quality assurance, client care, occupational health and safety and emergency services.

Opening it, the Deputy Western Regional Director of Health Services in charge of Clinical Care, Dr. Atsu Dodoor, was unhappy about the rude behavior of some subordinate staff to their superiors and said this does not promote good health care.

He cautioned the staff against using their positions to indulge in pilfering which makes the hospital lose a number of basic items meant for the treatment of patients.

Dr. Dodoor asked them to use the review meeting to change their negative attitudes to enhance quality health service delivery.

In a presentation, the Medical Superintendent of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Hospital, Dr. Edward Osei Appiah, expressed concern over the delays in the payment of health insurance claims, and appealed to government to consider the financial constraints caused and settle them.

He disclosed that the hospital has, since the beginning of this year, not recorded any maternal deaths due to prudent steps put in place.

Dr. Appiah also appealed to government to provide the hospital with its basic needs such as human resource, equipment, infrastructure and funds among others.

The Chief of Sefwi, Adiembra Nana Kofi Samah, who presided over the function, was impressed about the performance of the hospital and expressed the hope that it would be elevated to a Regional Hospital, since Wiawso is the capital of the Western North Region.
