The Northern Development Authority (NDA) has initiated a new program to improve infrastructure and reduce the incidence of poverty in the Northern Ghana.

The program, known as the Infrastructure and Poverty Eradication Program (IPEP), will be implemented across the operational zone of the authority, which comprises the Northern, Upper East, Upper West, Savannah and North East Regions.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NDA, Alhassan Sulemana Anamzoya announced this when he cut sods for the construction of a bridge and a maternity ward at two separate functions in the Nanumba north and Tolon districts of the Northern Region.

While the bridge connects some farming communities to market centers in Bimbilla, Accra and Tamale, the maternity ward at Gbu Lahagu will serve hundreds of families and improve access to skilled delivery as well as reduce maternal mortality.

Mr. Anamzoya explained that, poverty remains the biggest challenge facing Northern Ghana, which is reflected in poor road network, inadequate health facilities and school infrastructure.

The Nanumba North District Chief Executive, Abdulai Yaqoub, welcomed the development and promised to personally supervise the project to ensure value for money
