NPP Presidential Primary: Bawumia leads in Bono East as region sees smooth polls

The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Presidential Primary in the Bono East Region has concluded successfully, with a peaceful atmosphere maintained throughout the voting process thanks to tight security measures. Agents representing the various aspirants have lauded the conduct of the election, expressing satisfaction with the transparency and fairness displayed.

According to the Electoral Commission’s certified results, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the frontrunner in the region, securing 5,049 votes. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong garnered 828 votes, while Dr. Bryan Acheampong secured 1,391 votes. Dr. Adutwum and Kwabena Adjei Agyapong received 58 and 13 votes, respectively.

A total of 7,359 votes were cast in the election, with 7,339 deemed valid and 20 rejected ballots. The 12 voting centers across the region witnessed a peaceful election, a testament to the efforts of the Electoral Commission and security agencies, who worked tirelessly to ensure a credible outcome.

The results have been met with jubilation and solemn acceptance from supporters of the various aspirants, reflecting the maturity of the party’s internal democratic processes. As the NPP moves forward in its quest for the 2028 general elections, the outcome of the Bono East Region primary will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the party’s strategy.

The success of the election has also highlighted the region’s commitment to democratic values and peaceful electoral processes, setting a positive example for other regions to follow.

In an interview with GBC NEWS, Bono East Regional Director of the EC, Dr. Gabriel Dei Yeboah, praised the party leadership, security agencies, and EC officials for a job well done.

Bono East Regional Police Commander, DCOP Owusu Ansah, commended police personnel deployed to voting centers and lauded the party leadership and EC for effective collaboration.
