Okumkom: Former Kumasi Mayor to be laid to rest on February 27

Former Chief Executive of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Nana Akwasi Agyemang, also known as ‘Okumkom’, will be buried on the 27th of this month.

Nana Akwasi Agyemang, one of the senior members of the Asante Royal family died last month at age 86.

He had a long political history, dating back to 1977, during the Supreme Military Council government of late General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong.

He also served under Former Presidents Hilla Limann and Flt. Lt Jerry John Rawlings.  He was also considered a leading contender to the Asante Stool after the death of Otumfuo Opoku Ware  in 1999.

The Family led by Baffour Osei Kwame Kantankrakyi, One of the Senior Linguists of Otumfuo Osei Tutu officially informed the President of the passing of  Nana Akwasi Agyemang.

President Akufo-Addo said Government will assist in giving Nana Akwasi Agyemang a beffiting burial.
