Nii Adote Otinto II, has been officially sworn-in as Mantse (Chief) of Sempe Traditional Area by a Circuit Court Judge, Justice Kwame Amoako.

His swearing-in ceremony which was held Monday, November 5, 2018, at the Ga Traditional Council followed the acquisition of his Gazette as endorsed by the National House of Chiefs.

Nii Adote Otintor II, known in private life as Nii Moi Allotei Brown succeeded in securing his Gazette from the National House of Chiefs qualifying him as the substantive chief of Sempe in Accra after a protracted dispute over his legitimacy to the throne.

However, a Gazette Extract upon which he was sworn-in, indicated that Nii Adote Otintor II is succeeding the late Nii Adote Obour II who was installed Sempe Divisional Chief in 1971 but abdicated the throne in 2016.

According to the Gazette Extract, Nii Adote Otintor II was enstooled on September 4, 2016 after the late Chief, Nii Adote Obour II abdicated the throne on September 1, 2016.

Speaking during his swearing-in ceremony, Nii Adote Otintor II enumerated that the institution of chieftaincy desires its principal attention by keeping to tradition and that “If chieftaincy is used as a catalyst for progressive social change to serve the aspirations and needs of the people then it is possible for tradition to co-exist with modernity.”

He said: “As chiefs we need to play active part in the day to day affairs of our subjects and communities. We need to initiate programmes and activities and also collaborate with the government both at local and national levels.”

He urged chiefs to be interested in the welfare of their subjects.

Nii Adote Otintor II also touched on the lack of unity among chiefs saying that there is seeming lack of unity among them as chiefs.

He admitted the existence of disunity among the people of Ga State over the legitimacy of chiefs in various parts of the region but expressed the hope that with time the Council would put in place measures to restore the Ga State to its former peace and unity status.

According to him, instead of channeling their energies and resources towards the well-being and welfare of their people and the future of the youth, they are rather focusing in fighting among themselves.

He also revealed that certain personalities have been hiding behind some people trying to destroy his good name and hard-earned reputation just because he has been laying good foundation for his people and always speaking the truth.

According to him, he will not be discouraged by these negative comments but will continue working for his people.

He was hopeful that Nii Adote Otinto would demonstrate that he is a peacemaker by settling existing disputes between him and some sections of his subjects who seem not to be in support of his installation.

Nii Adote Otinto for his part, signaled that the time had come to restore the glory of the State, and urged all Ga people and Sempes in particular, to support him in delivering the best leadership the people deserve.

He was unhappy about the gross disregard for education and the insanitary conditions within Accra and gave the assurance that he would use his office to promote education and ensure that the national capital is kept clean.

Nii Otinto also urged all Gas to support the cause of the Traditional Council and live in peace and unity.

He expressed his gratitude to the council for the confidence reposed in him and called on his subjects to co-exist peacefully and contribute meaningfully to the development of the town.
