Scabies, a contagious, intensely itchy skin condition caused by a tiny, burrowing mite, is spreading like wild fire in the North East Region affecting 246 communities with very little support.

The most common symptom of scabies is intense itching in the area where the mites burrow.

A visit to the Sakogu Health Center, one of the Sub-Municipals  of the East Mamprusi Municipality portrayed a very sorry sight.

The facility was full of patients, mostly women and children who had come to seek help with very limited medicines.

Sources said both children under five and adults compete for the same medication because there is no syrup for the children.

In view of this the adult tablet is split into two for the children which has it’s own implications.

The victims are therefore appealing for adequate supply of medicines to relieve them of their plight.
