The paramount chief of Ntrubo North Traditional Area in the Nkwanta South Municipality of the Oti Region, Nana Obirikitibi Amnadu Okordie, has issued a decree prohibiting school children from being outside after 9 p.m., a move aimed at fostering a safe learning environment and protecting their welfare.

Announcing the decree during the 2025 Kedeesa Festival, the chief emphasized the need to safeguard children from potential dangers such as abduction, exploitation, or accidents, while ensuring they have enough rest and time for studies.

The festival, which attracted thousands of residents, showcased the Obirikitibi cultural group’s dance, local artists, and a football gala, celebrating the area’s rich cultural heritage.

Nana Obirikitibi urged parents and guardians to enforce the decree, describing it as a shared responsibility to give children the best opportunities for success. The initiative has received widespread support from parents, teachers, and community leaders.

The Paramount Chief also addressed ongoing tensions in the area, calling for peace and urging conflict sponsors to focus on development instead of fighting. “In every war situation, nobody is victorious,” he said, stressing the importance of dialogue for lasting solutions.

At the festival, Nkwanta South Member of Parliament, Geoffrey Kini, warned youths against illicit drug use, highlighting its growing threat to their future. He also shared plans to repair damaged roads connecting Ntrubo communities and improve other social infrastructure, urging residents to trust in him and the government to drive development in the area.
