Parliament of Ghana is demanding further investigation into last Thursday’s (8th June, 2023) deadly shooting of some suspected land guards by officers of the anti-robbery unit of the Ghana Police Service at Bortianor in the Greater Accra Region after the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Sylvester Tetteh, and other lawmakers, made a request to the House to look into the incident.

MP for Bortianor-Ngleshie Amanfro Constituency, Sylvester Tetteh.

The shootout, the police explained, led to the injury of five of the suspects who were later pronounced dead at the hospital.

According to a press release issued by the police on Saturday, June 10, 2023, the remaining suspects fled the scene “and are still on the run”.

But on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Andrew Amoako Asiamah, asked the Defence and Interior Committee to conduct an investigation into the killing.

“We are making the referral to the committee of the Defence and Interior, and we are asking the leadership of the Constitutional and Parliamentary Affairs to also join the Defence and Interior Committee and report back by the end of this month,” he said.
