The Western North Regional Police Command has arrested five young men suspected to be behind several robbery attacks in Sefwi Bekwai and nearby communities.
The suspects, identified as Iddrisu Abdalla (20), Abdul Rahaman Abubakar (21), Okasha Mohammed (19), Toffic Bawa (24) and Richard Gyapong (35), were picked up during an intelligence-led operation.
According to the Police, officers on surveillance intercepted three of the suspects who were riding an unregistered motorbike. When they got to the Mpesiem Police snap checkpoint, the riders refused to stop. They were chased and arrested.
A search later conducted in the homes of the suspects revealed a backpack containing several talismans, a face mask and finger rings, which the Police believe were used to support their criminal activities.
Initial investigations show that the five suspects are connected to a number of robbery cases reported recently in the Bekwai area.
The suspects are currently in police custody and assisting with further investigations.
