The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral video administering what is believed to be a cigarette to a child, an act that has sparked widespread public outrage.

In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on 22nd November 2025, the Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was picked up through an intelligence-led operation. Police say the suspect admitted to the offence during interrogation and disclosed that the incident took place about five years ago.

According to the statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, the suspect is currently in custody assisting with investigations and will be put before court.

The Police Service cautioned the public against acts that endanger the welfare of children, reiterating its commitment to safeguarding minors from harm. It further warned that perpetrators of such offences will be pursued and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
