Police arrest seven in Friday’s clashes at Yendi

The Police at Yendi on Friday arrested seven persons in connection with violent clashes witnessed in the area this afternoon.

The clashes left 17 persons with various degrees of injury and they are currently receiving treatment at the Yendi Government Hospital.

There were sporadic gunshots all over the Yendi Township this afternoon when the funeral of Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II was to start.

The streets of Yendi were deserted and journalists, who were in the area to cover the funeral proceedings, took cover at the premises of the Yendi Divisional Police Command.

Meanwhile, calm has been restored in Yendi and a statement from the office of the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who is the Chairman of the committee of eminent chiefs said the funeral rites will continue as planned.
