A man seen in a viral Facebook video beating a woman said to be his wife has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service.
The video, which trended widely yesterday on social media, showed the man physically assaulting the woman inside their home. One Facebook user who shared the video wrote, “Bro this is too much in my house my landlord is always beating his wife men are heartless Ghana police.”
According to a statement posted by the Ghana Police Service on social media this morning, the suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, was arrested on Monday, November 17th, 2025, at the family residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.
The police also said, “The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested a man captured in a viral Facebook video physically assaulting a woman believed to be his wife at their residence at Ofankor in the Ga East Municipality.”
Two of Lamptey’s siblings, Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey, were also arrested. They allegedly attempted to attack a female tenant they believed recorded and circulated the video. Police rescued the tenant to ensure her safety.
Efforts are ongoing to locate the wife, who fled the scene before officers arrived. The police noted, “The Ghana Police Service remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that perpetrators face the full rigour of the law.”
The incident has sparked conversations online about domestic violence and the need for stronger voices to fight it.
