Police CID invites Assin Central MP over murder of Ahmed

The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has confirmed that Kennedy Agyapong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has been invited for questioning over the murder of the late Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an investigative journalist.

The Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police, (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, confirmed this during a maiden visit by Mr Ambrose Dery, the Minister for the Interior to the CID Headquarters in Accra on Friday.

The undercover investigator who was also a key member of Tiger Eye Private Investigation team led by Ace Investigative Journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas was shot dead on Wednesday, January 16 night at Madina in Accra while driving home by unidentified men riding a motorbike.

He was reportedly shot three times, twice in the chest and in the neck.

She explained that, even before the CID served the Speaker of Parliament, a letter of invitation for the Mr Agyapong, he willingly availed himself.

“Mr Kennedy Agyapong on his own decided that, even before the Speaker informs him that he’s been invited by the Police, he volunteered that he will come and tell us whatever he knows about the case,” she said.

“So it is true that we have been in touch with Mr Kennedy Agyapong and investigation from that side has begun. Three officers met him, spoke to him and the investigations is on course,” she added.

The CID promised to give individuals who would help the Police Service with information to enhance their investigation processes with a ransom of GH¢15,000.00.

The amount would be given each to individuals who offer information on the killing of Ahmed, and the Late Josephine Asante, the Marketing and Public Affairs Manager of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority.

DCOP Tiwaa said it took special processes to invite a Member of Parliament for questioning at the CID.

DCOP Tiwaa assured all and sundry that the CID were in control of the country’s safety in the wake of recent killings, adding that, the “Police will deliver justice.”

In a related development, Mr. Dery noted that the country was safe and the Police Service would not rest on their oars in protecting citizens and non-citizens.
