Police in Yendi have impounded ten boxes containing two hundred and fifty cartridges. The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Kofi Ayirezeng told GBC’s Radio Ghana that the boxes of cartridges were in a Metro Mass transit bus headed for Chereponi.

The Police said a suspect named Mohammed Gushie is in custody after confessing that the boxes belonged to him.

It is not clear if the cartridges were actually headed to Chereponi, but the Chereponi District has witnessed an on and off conflict between Chokosis and Konkombas.

A few weeks ago, renewed clashes over farm lands left more than thirty persons dead with many more injured. A number of communities were also burnt in the process.

There are ongoing efforts to resolve the matter. The Interior Minister and the Northern Regional Security Council are billed to visit the area today as part of ongoing efforts to end the two year old conflict.
