The Minority in Parliament has insisted that the current state of the Ghanaian economy is as a result of mismanagement by Government and not the direct cause of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
Deputy-Minority Chief Whip, Ibrahim Ahmed said the Economy in 2017 showed enormous signs of growth only to witness a downward spiral due to over-borrowing and high expenditure.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme “FOCUS”, Mr. Ahmed, who is MP for Banda, gave a background on the country’s expenditure and borrowing trajectory from 2009 to date, while urging the Government to be sincere with the true state of affairs.
Also on the Programme was Deputy Minister of Sanitation, Issahaku Amidu Chinnia who called for general appreciation of the impact of Covid- 19 on National economies globally.
”Non-admission of the gravity of the situation amounts to playing on people’s emotions.”
For his part, Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Professional Studies, UPSA, Dr. John Mawutor described the 2022 Budget and Economic Policy as a well-thought-through Policy with the only contention being the proposed E-Levy.
”Both sides in Parliament should reconsider their posture to give true meaning to the country’s accolade as a beacon of hope for democracy in Africa.”
