President Akufo-Addo has hinted of plans to re-open the Komenda Sugar Factory in April this year on.
This follows the completion of civil works by the strategic Indian Investor selected by the government to help inject capital into the business.
President Akufo-Addo announced this when a delegation of Chiefs from the Komenda Traditional Council paid a courtesy call on him at the Jubilee House.
The Komenda Sugar Factory was topical on the major political issues in the run up to the 2020 general election. This follows the closure of the factory due to lack of the raw material.
The government through the Ministry of Trade and Industry has given the defunct factory to an Indian Investor who has undertaken civil works which will be completed in March paving the way for production of sugar to begin.
President Akufo-Addo said the government is determined to get the factory back to operation. He noted that the factory ”will generate the needed jobs for residents in the region and sugar cane out growers”.
President of the Komenda Traditional Council, Nana Kwahin noted that a 20-acre land has been secured to grow sugar cane to feed the factory.
