An Accra Circuit Court has remanded into prison custody, six suspects behind the highway robbery which took the life of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman, Ekow Quansah Hayford.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Seth Frimpong told the Court that on the 9th of this month they received information that armed robbers had mounted barriers on the Abeadze—Dominase – Mankessim road and robbed their victims and shot some of them.

He said among those who were shot was the late MP who was identified after the robbery incident when Police got to the crime scene.

The prosecution said in their investigations Police traced the MP’s mobile phone to Kumasi Aboabo where they arrested Nasiru Fudailu who told the Police, Alhassan Abubakar sold it to him at a cost of 750 cedis.

Fudailu led the Police to Abubakar at Kumasi Akwatia line. When he was arrested he also mentioned one Mohammed who is at large as the one who sold it to him at a cost of 650 cedis.

Lawyers of the accused persons applied for bail for their clients but the Court presided over by Evelyn Asamoah said considering the nature of the case with Police investigations ongoing they cannot be granted bail.

The six are Alhassan Abubakar alias Fulani a phone repairer, Nasiru Fudailu a business man, Alhassan Mahama Yaya, alias mystical cloud, a resident of Dansoman, and Amadu Yakubu a mobile money vendor at Mankessim. The rest are Haruna Osmanu a trader at Mankessim and Adam Alhasan.

They pleaded not guilty to the charges of conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery contrary to the laws of the state.

The case has been adjourned to the 30th of this month where trial is expected to start.
