Former Government Spokesperson on Governance, Dr. Palgrave Boakye-Danquah, says the party should have called out Abronye long before his comments escalated into a national issue, adding that the government and security agencies must also handle such matters with greater care.

Mr. Palgrave cited this on September 15, 2025, on the Channel 1 breakfast show with Nana Tufuor Boateng.

His statement follows the arrest of the NPP’s Bono Regional Chairman, known as Abronye, who is said to have used offensive words against government officials. The security agencies deemed it out of order, noting that the law does not permit threats against government officials.

Abronye allegedly stated on an online platform, Ohia TV, on September 3, that the Inspector-General of Police attended all the strategic meetings conducted by the NDC in Akwatia. According to the prosecution, the statement was intended to cause fear and panic. On the charge of offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, it is alleged that on the same date and platform, Abronye made abusive statements against the IGP, describing him as someone with low IQ and the most corrupt in the history of the country.

Abronye has since been granted bail.

But Mr. Palgrave expressed disappointment in his party for failing to discipline Abronye before his comments went viral. He said the NPP is known for its strong values, dignity, self-respect, good moral standards, and grassroots discipline, and therefore blames the party for allowing Abronye to act out of order.

According to him, he is also unhappy with how the security agencies and government are handling the matter, and he added that the judge’s verdict did not sit well with all political parties.

He concluded that insulting and denigrating people should not be seen as an accomplishment in a political career.
