Former Member of Parliament for Asante Mampong and two-time New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, has thrown his support behind Mr. Paul Awentami Afoko, describing him as the unifying leader the party needs to rebuild after its 2024 electoral defeat.
According to Addai-Nimoh, Mr Afoko’s personal experience of going through difficult moments within the party positions him to reconcile aggrieved members and restore unity.
Addressing NPP delegates in the Upper West Region, Mr Addai Nimo said Mr Paul Afoko’s return to frontline leadership would send a powerful message to party members who have become disillusioned.
“If we give him the mandate, he can go to those our brothers and sisters who are aggrieved and sitting somewhere and tell them, ‘When I went back and told my story to the party, they renewed my mandate for me. So all of you come, let’s move together.’ Won’t they listen?” he asked.
The former lawmaker argued that the NPP’s greatest challenge is not its political opponent, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), but divisions within its own ranks.
“The problem is not NDC, the problem is we, the internal people. We have not treated ourselves well,” he said.
He maintained that a united party would be well-positioned to reclaim political power.
Mr Addai-Nimoh further described Afoko’s return to a key leadership role as non-negotiable, insisting he possesses the leadership qualities needed to reorganise the party, particularly at a time when the NPP has lost parliamentary representation in some regions.
“He is more than capable of reorganising the party for effectiveness and efficiency. At this crucial moment, when we have no seats in some regions of the country, we need an amazing person to occupy the position. We have four regions with a combined 53 parliamentary seats, and the NPP has none. We need capable hands to salvage the party,” he said.
Mr Paul Afoko, who is seeking to become the NPP’s National Chairman, has been touring constituencies across the country with a campaign centred on what he calls the 3Rs Agenda—Reuniting, Rebuilding and Returning the NPP to power.

His campaign has consistently promoted the slogan “One NPP, One People,” while emphasising grassroots empowerment through greater recognition and support for polling station executives, constituency executives, and other party faithful.
Mr Afoko has also pledged to improve the welfare of grassroots executives, provide better logistics, and ensure broader inclusion in party decision-making, arguing that rebuilding the party from its base is essential to restoring the NPP’s electoral fortunes.
